About Us – The Story of Niketika
Hello, my name is Dr. Shubha Dubey.
Coming from a line of strong women and blessed with the best of men, making my name or having a financially independent life was never something I needed to achieve rather, it was the ground that I stood on. It was always a part of our identities, one of our realities, just another step in having a meaningful life.
So, got my degrees, married my soulmate, had the most beautiful and understanding kid and joined a job. Easy peasy!
But then, that fascination and excitement of getting clothes made from scratch for myself and the women around me….uuufffffff, can never let that one go! Strolling through the lanes of Jaipur, Banaras, Kota, Gwalior or wherever I lived has been one of the most therapeutic experiences of my life. Witnessing the process of getting the plain fabric cut, hand dyeing, those machine or hand embroidered motifs and finally getting it stitched especially for me…..eeeessssshhhhhh, getting goosebumps as I type it even.
After a few years of working as an Asst. Prof., running through hours of traffic to reach University and having a schedule not supportive of my personal life, I decided to get the load off! Lo and behold, NIKETIKA was born.
Born again, coming back in our lives. Niketika is my forever 13 biTiya (2 months shy of turning 14, the most beautiful soul lost to Lupus). She was my sister, my daughter, my first child, and the inspiration behind this dream of mine. She wanted to be an actress when she grew up and wear clothes made by me.
So this here is, probably naive attempt towards trying to keep her alive. And what befitting name for a women’s clothing brand than the name which means queen of our home (niket).
